Do you feel your skin is looking dull, uneven or just not as fresh as it used to?

If you love your IPL results but feel your skin needs a little more, IllumiSmooth is designed to take your results to the next level.

This advanced combination treatment helps to restore smoother, brighter, more refined skin — while still keeping downtime manageable.

What Is Illumismooth?

IllumiSmooth is a results-driven treatment combining two powerful technologies:

• IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) to improve redness, pigmentation and overall clarity
• 2940 fractional Erbium laser resurfacing to refine texture, soften fine lines and smooth the skin

By combining both in one session, we can treat tone and texture together, creating a more complete skin refresh.

What can IllumiSmooth improve?

• Pigmentation from sun damage and uneven skin tone
• Redness and flushing
• Dull, tired-looking skin
• Fine lines and early skin ageing
• Uneven texture and roughness

The result is skin that looks brighter, smoother and more refreshed — without the need for more aggressive resurfacing treatments.

Why Choose Illumismooth?

  • A step up from IPL:
Ideal if you feel IPL alone isn’t quite enough anymore.

  • Efficient results:
Targets multiple concerns in one treatment rather than several separate appointments.

  • Manageable downtime:
Most patients experience a few days of redness and plan this around a long weekend.

  • Natural-looking results:
Skin looks healthier, clearer and more refined — not over-treated.

Who Is This Treatment For?

IllumiSmooth is ideal for patients who:
• Want more noticeable results than IPL alone
• Are starting to see early signs of ageing or sun damage
• Want smoother, brighter skin without significant downtime
• Are able to follow aftercare and avoid sun exposure

Important Safety Notes:

  • Any lesions larger than 6mm, unusual, rapidly changing, or concerning moles should be checked by your GP or a dermatologist before booking a treatment or patch test.
  • If you cannot see your GP promptly, we offer our Map My Mole service, providing a professional dermoscopy report within 48 hours.
  • All patients require a patch test and consultation.

Aftercare & Timing:

  • Strict sunscreen use and UV avoidance are essential to maintain results.
  • For convenience, you can find a high-quality UPF50 hats and clothing we recommend here.
  • If you cannot avoid sun exposure, we recommend undergoing IPL treatment during autumn or winter for best results.

How Do You Administer Illumismooth Treatment?

After a full consultation and assessment of your skin, your practitioner will explain the treatment to you and perform a patch test. This is done on a separate day to your full treatment.

On your treatment day, photographs will be taken to document your treatment. You will be given a hand held icy cool fan to keep you cool during the procedure.

Your skin will be medically cleansed followed by the application of protective eye goggles and a cooling gel applied to your skin.

Your practitioner will then start the IPL treatment, which involves moving the IPL device over the area to be treated. This can be uncomfortable and some patients describe as an elastic band pinging on the skin. Cooling of the skin using your fan will help.

Some lesions will darken first, this is normal, this skin may then crust and then heal to display lovely smooth skin.

The procedure takes 15 minutes and a cool pack will be applied afterwards to cool the skin.

The next step will be the resurface 2940nm fractional laser. This will resurface the skin, and the treatment takes around 30 minutes. 1-2 passes of the laser over the whole face will be carried out.

The skin will then be checked and cooled again.

Follow up treatments are usually every four-six weeks depending on the individual patient, our cosmetics doctors will provide you with additional information on follow up during your consultation.

Are There Any Side Effects to Illumismooth?

IPL and fractional Laser are well tolerated and very safe. Typical side effects will include, redness, dryness, bronzing/small scabs, mild flushing, mild swelling, tight and dry skin.

Delicate skin may have mild bruising/marks or in rare cases superficial blistering and noticeable swelling. Some patients may find the procedure uncomfortable, let your Doctor know so we can adjust the settings.

The skin redness starts to fade after 1-2 days and bronzed/small micro crusts may appear. Use of moisturiser and sun protection cream is essential. These will then flake off over the next week.

By day 7-10, almost all patients have recovered fully from the treatment with no visible signs of having the procedure.

Hair loss can occur if you desire a hairy area to be treated, eg beard (unless blonde or grey).

Extremely rare side effects include, scarring, infection, herpes reactivation and pigmentation (if no spf protection used).

There is an aftercare programme which your practitioner will advise you on.

What Is The Aftercare/Downtime for Illumismooth?

To gain the best results from your treatment, please follow the aftercare plan below.

  • Stop any acids/retinoids/irritating creams at least 7 days before and after treatment to minimise redness and irritation.
  • Mild redness, tightness and flushing after treatment is normal.
  • Wash your hands and avoid touching the treated area. This reduces the risk of infection.
  • Use the clinisept spray regularly to mist over the treatment area to reduce infection/irritation (Available to purchase from our online skincare shop).
  • Occasionally mild swelling, or bruising may occur. This usually settles after 1-4 days but may last longer. An anti-histamine tablet may help swelling, along with extra pillow to elevate your head, arnica cream/tablets and cool flannels can be used to help bruising and heat.
  • Lesions may darken, crust and then flake off, this is totally normal, do not pick/disturb the healing.
  • Avoid direct UV exposure for 2 weeks, saunas, steam rooms and vigorous exercise for 48 hours.
  • Wash the treated area gently with tepid water or pHformula EXFO/FOAM/Gel cleanse for the first 1-2 days.
  • Apply pHformula recovery/SOS cream/post recovery gel regularly and if desired return to wearing make-up after 2+ days.
  • Apply pHformula UV protect liberally every day – Minimum spf 30+. Use a large hat, scarf and sunglasses if outside.
  • Avoid direct sun exposure and do not use sun tanning beds. Results are best seen after several weeks. If you have any concerns, please contact your practitioner or email us at dramber@cosmeticsdoctor.co.uk
